But on his 17th reincarnation, something changes. Mickey starts to question his purpose, the people controlling him, and the dark truths behind the mission. When Mickey 18 arrives... the system breaks.
π§ Review: Mind-Bending, Emotionally Layered Sci-Fi
With Mickey 17, Bong Joon-ho delivers a cerebral sci-fi epic that mixes philosophical questions with action, class commentary, and emotional intimacy. Think Moon meets Parasite meets Blade Runner 2049.
Robert Pattinson plays two versions of himself brilliantly—capturing humor, existential dread, and rebellion. The visuals are stunning yet grounded, never overwhelming the themes of identity, control, and mortality.
π― Highlights:
-
𧬠Unique Concept: Cloning + memory retention = original tension
-
π΅️ Dual performance: Pattinson vs. Pattinson is weirdly hypnotic
-
π Bong's storytelling: A layered, darkly funny narrative with real human stakes
-
π Visual Design: Sterile, beautiful, and lonely sci-fi environments
-
𧩠Ethical questions: What makes a person “you”? Who decides value?
π» Weak Points:
-
Dense exposition in the first act
-
Slow burn pacing may not suit all viewers
-
Philosophical themes might overshadow traditional sci-fi action
⭐ Cine Slices Rating: 9.1 / 10
A bold, brainy, and beautiful piece of modern sci-fi. Mickey 17 challenges the idea of disposability in a world that commodifies human life. Bong Joon-ho once again proves he's a master of genre-blending with substance.
